TOM YORK

How does it feel to be joining the cast of such a successful and renowned show as Poldark?
It’s been great! The opportunity to work on and play a complex character for 6 months is everything, especially with the caliber of cast and crew that Poldark has. I can’t stress enough how welcoming everyone on the show has been to the new cast. It’s made work so much easier and more fulfilling.

Is imagination a big part of portraying your roles in Poldark and Olympus?
Poldark and Olympus are obviously set in very different worlds to the one we live in. Before we start shooting I spend time feeling out the landscape of their lives, trying to find the world and events that make them who they are. It’s important for me to use my imagination to connect with them.

Your roles in television vary quite significantly! Tell us how you manage that range.
I am totally obsessed with people and with what makes them tick. To play characters far away from yourself is a gift and often a rare one. I always want to stretch myself and find out what I’m capable of. I’ve been very lucky to play a some varied characters in my career already and I hope to make a habit out of it.

Do you have a specific dream to achieve or something you particularly want to cover in your career? I just want to keep working on projects and characters that I love; and to get better and better along the way. At the end of the day it’s myself I have to answer to. I feel like I can achieve a lot, but the proof is in the pudding!

Outside of acting, what are you passionate about?
I’ve been rock-climbing regularly for about a year now. It’s very relaxing and keeps me in touch with my body.
