The buzz
Nestled just minutes from the bustle of Oxford Circus, this all-day dining haven is chic and sophisticated but relaxed and inviting. Renowned for its afternoon tea and a fantastic array of cakes, including gluten free, it’s the perfect post-shopping stop off.
What to expect
The ambience is relaxed and welcoming with low lighting creating an intimate feel. Friendly and attentive staff will escort you to your table and it’s the excellent service which makes 108 Brasserie stand head and shoulders above the rest. From the bubbly hostess to the very knowledgeable staff, their knowledge and passion is evident so make sure you check with them for their recommendations. Sunday to Wednesday the soundtrack features laid-back jazz while on the weekends the DJ plays a more up beat tempo in the adjoining bar.
From the menu
The concise British cuisine based menu has something for all tastes. The Josper Grill, cooked on charcoal, is a standout. Do not pass on the opening bread plate, featuring 4 varieties all home-baked including the fantastic soda bread and Guinness bread, all served with Irish butter.
A very popular starter is the seared tuna, which with a kick of soy and ginger dressing is refreshingly mouth-watering. The baby beets and creamy goats cheese is a fusion of textures and tantalisingly appetising. The whole lemon sole from the grill is fresh and fluffy, a meal in itself while sides of mixed honey-glazed carrots come highly recommended. A bottle of malbec from the accomplished wine-list is the perfect accompaniment to most dishes. The desert menu includes lemon tart, a great pallet cleanser, but the highlight is definitely the warm chocolate fondant with peanut ice cream. Ingenious.
Good for…
Whether it’s a catch up with a good friend, a family reunion or a first date, this venue manages to fit the bill for all occasions. Just be warned, you will leave satisfied but very full!
